Brief description:
Arne Roos heads the "Local Modification" (LM) Group in the department WMP at the Institute of Materials Mechanics at the Helmholtz Center Geesthacht.
The LM Group is involved in process development from basic to applied research in hybrid friction diffusion bonding (HFDB), friction surfacing (FS) and friction extrusion (FE).
The work of the LM Group aims at process development for various industrial sectors including the energy sector (HFDB) for e.g. low and high temperature heat exchanger, the shipbuilding sector (HFDB, FS) for e.g. dissimilar multi-material compounds, and the aircraft industry (HFDB, FS, FE) for e.g. increasing the damage tolerance of metallic aircraft structures by local thermomechanical microstructure modification (HFDB, FE).
