Requirement for the safe operation of mechanically loaded components is an understanding of the deformation, damage and failure behaviour of the material subjected to various mechanical loading conditions. Here, at the department Experimental Materials Mechanics, are developed experimental methods for characterising deformation, damage and failure of metallic materials, as well as fracture mechanics based concepts for assessment of the lifetime and integrity of components.
