Matter Transport and Ecosystem Dynamics

Climate fluctuations, climate changes and human activity substantially impact marine ecosystems at the coasts and shelf seas. Within the department for “Matter Transport and Ecosystem Dynamics” we develop and apply complex models for marine ecosystem and pollutants. Using model-based studies our research focusses on coupled physical-chemical-biological processes, understanding their interactions and changes related to environmental changes and human pressures. With the help of scenario simulations and prognosis models, we provide the basis for developing marine mitigation and adaptation strategies for coastal systems.
