Interoperable GMES Services for Environmental Risk Management in Marine and Coastal Areas of Europe

InterRisk

Project timeline
Start:
September 2006
Duration:
36 months
End:
August 2009
General Information
The open objectives of InterRisk are to develop an open system architecture for interoperable, GMES monitoring and forecasting services for marine and coastal areas and will be implemented in a network of services for several European regional seas. The services will be based on satellite data, in situ data and numerical models for the ocean and atmosphere and will be evaluated by users responsible for crisis mnagement in case of oil spills, harmful algal blooms and other marine pollution events. GKSS will run a node with web services for German users with data from ASAR, MERIS, Ferrybox providing information on wind-fields, potential oil slicks, alga blooms, exeptional bloom detection, and in-situ measurements in the southern part of the North Sea. As the system will use multible data streams, it will be able to provide a much better monitoring and forecasting capability in comparison with current systems in the addressed areas. This will make the system competitive in the market place and will lead to significant environmental improvements by minimising the impact of marine pollutants.
